A heart-stoppingly beautiful African setting awaits at the award-winning Big Five malaria-free Samara Private Game Reserve near Graaff-Reinet. Two elegant lodges lie nestled between an amphitheatre of mountains on 67,000 acres of the Great Karoo landscape with breathtaking views. Samara encompasses 4 vegetation biomes, dramatic mountains and the unique ‘Samara Mara’ - vast plateau grasslands resembling the East African Serengeti.
Encircled by a natural amphitheatre of mountains, Karoo Lodge is a unique family-friendly safari lodge with a true sense of place. This lovingly reimagined farmhouse is where the Samara Story began in 1997. Combining traditional Karoo style and modern South African design with personal touches evoking Samara’s journey as a family-run conservation project, Karoo Lodge offers an elevated home away from home experience for guests of all ages. Extensive renovations during 2023 have expanded and upgraded facilities with a focus on sustainability. Karoo Lodge comprises 10 suites across two room types: eight Karoo Suites and two Karoo Family Suites, sleeping up to 24 guests.
